Our second part of the journal blog post series is the story of the mellow weave Gylly hammam towel.

Named after the beautiful golden crescent of sand which makes up Gyllyngvase beach (or gylly to the locals) in Falmouth, Cornwall. There is some debate over the origin of the name, but most think it is likely that the word Gyllyngvase is derived from the Cornish phrase “an gilen vas,” meaning shallow inlet.

In true ebbflow style, the beach is one of the most popular in the South West amongst those who love to explore the outdoors. It's pale sand is ideal for digging and building sandcastles, and it's turquoise waters are perfect for the all popular paddle boarding, which is also featured on our illustration for our Gylly hammam.

On warm days your Gylly towel will be an ideal place to rest or sit for a picnic. For the not so warm days when the wind is whipping up a sandstorm, the supersoft Gylly makes an excellent shawl or scarf to wrap up in.

The family run, award winning Gylly Cafe is renowned for it's cakes and roasts, boasting locally sourced ingredients and is a stones throw away at the top of the beach.

Just behind the beach are the wonderful Queen Mary Gardens, which are home to lush subtropical plants such as Agapanthus and the giant-leafed Gunnera. The south-west coastal path, which loops up to Pendennis Point for some spectacular views of the Pendennis castle and back down to Carrick Roads and the River Fal is also found here.

Alternatively grab your towel and head to the St Michael's hotel for spa, dinner or just spectacular views whilst sipping a coffee.
